The following topics examine common misperceptions and inaccuracies that can be attributed to innuendo, rumor, and/or malicious gossip-mongering. The purpose is to present the facts as they are known to UF, and to invite interested parties to contact us (via the e-mail link below) to gain further information.Point: "The district does not have the money to provide competitive salary increases to certificated personnel." Counterpoint: This has been one of the most financially successful years for the district in quite some time. Equalization funds, bond increases, COLA have added to the monies available to competitively increase salaries and benefits. (A 5.92% COLA increase was awarded by the state.) Point: "UF has spent all its time and effort in contract negotiations on full-timer issues and ignored part-timer issues. Counterpoint: Nothing could be further from the truth! As part of the last ratified contract, UF negotiated an on-schedule (will continue in following years) salary increase for all part-time faculty of 8.57%. This "position" was approved by the UF Steering-Committee, even though all members realized that the commensurate increase for full-time faculty would be less - 3.2%. In addition, UF negotiated and the district (for the first time) is now offering a benefits package to part-time faculty. (This issue will be on-going as UF would like to address the question of who should pay.) |
