Here are breaking news headlines regarding events occurring recently that are of importance to all faculty members. The following have been elected to the UF Steering Committee. These are the positions that were open this year.
February 18, 2009. Part-Time Faculty WinCompensation for Committee Work. United Faculty has successfully negotiated an agreement with the District that will provide compensation for committee work performed by our part-time faculty. Again, "real change" is being made by your United Faculty. February 12, 2009. United Faculty Wins GrievanceContract Articles Preserved. Quite some time ago, United Faculty filed a grievance against the District regarding the disbursement of parity monies to non-classroom faculty for the 2004-2005 year. Recently, the arbitrator ruled in favor of United Faculty, and the case is now settled. This means that the District owes money to faculty, and is another instance of your union working for you! December 22, 2008. Part-Time Faculty Win.67 LED Assignment. Your United Faculty has successfully negotiated an agreement with the District to allow part-time faculty to be assigned LED up to a maximum of .67. At this time, many collective bargaining agents in the state have not been successful in striking such an agreement. Your United Faculty is able to effectively work for you and bring about "real change". December 11, 2008. District Drops 'Unfair'Work to Contract Preserved. At a PERB hearing in Los Angeles, the District agreed to drop their Unfair Labor Practice Charge against United Faculty regarding Work to Contract. This preserves the faculty right to exercise our Work to Contract right. November 8, 2008. Faculty and Students WINA New Trustee Elected. In a resounding victory, Mary Kay Rosinski has defeated incumbent T. Caruthers in the general election for Board Trustee. With extensive background and experience in education, she is committed to "making real change" on behalf of students in the District. During the election, United Faculty endorsed this candidate and worked hard on her behalf. Among other efforts, monies were donated by our PAC, signs were distributed, precincts walked, and a forum to meet the candidate was held. All faculty should take pride in the fact that you and your union representatives were "able to make a difference" in this important election. September 11, 2008. United Faculty ForumHear the Board Candidates. The United Faculty Steering Committee invites you to a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Cuyamaca College. The forum will be held upstairs in the new Cuyamaca Student Center (this is the double room space, I-207 and I-208, where Governing Board meetings are held). All candidates running for Governing Board seats have been invited to be present.
Please plan to attend! Bring your friends and neighbors who vote in the district. September 9, 2008. How can I spend my Retro?Let me count the ways! The timeline for payment of your new salary and retroactive installments has been finalized. SEPTEMBER 2008. September paychecks will reflect all new salary rates. All full-time and part-time faculty will be brought up to your current rate of pay. Full-time faculty pay is increased by 9.16% while part-time faculty receive an extra pay boost at 11.96%. OCTOBER 2008. October paychecks will entail retroactive payment for part-time faculty for both 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. NOVEMBER 2008. November paychecks will entail retroactive payment for full-time faculty for both 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. Additional. One additional retroactive payment will be made in January 2009 for those who did summer work in July and August of 2008. Please note. The Chancellor and Vice Chancellors of Business and Human Resources have been helpful in meeting United Faculty’s demand to implement salary augmentation and retroactive payments in a timely manner. The District is hiring additional employees in the Payroll division to accommodate the implementation of United Faculty’s new salary agreement. Please do not contact Payroll at this time with questions. Please direct your questions to United Faculty August 20, 2008. The News You Want to Hear!Governing Board Ratification. The Governing Board unanimously ratified the Fact Finding Recommendation. The District has not yet committed to a timeline for your pay increases. United Faculty will press for getting everyone brought to the current pay rate in September and the receipt of retro checks in October. Keep your eye on this new page and link.
